Almost 1,900 chairs, more than 200 desks and almost 300 tables are among thousands of items offered in a two-day auction of excess items from Reid Hospital's former campus on Chester Boulevard.
The "Buy a piece of history" auction is scheduled Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3-4, at the Wayne County Fairgrounds. "We have had numerous inquiries over the years from community members and organizations who were interested in buying some of these things," said Randy Kirk, Reid Foundation president and Reid vice president. "This huge sale is the opportunity."
The sale will take place in both the Raper Center and the Kuhlman Center. A preview is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2. The auction will begin with a preview each day at 8 a.m. and the sale begins at 9 a.m.
More than 4,000 pieces are on a main asset list that does not include thousands more smaller items. The list includes five armoires, 429 filing cabinets, 211 desks, 90 end tables, 40 work benches and 36 microwave ovens, among other things.
Auction services will be coordinated by Koons Auction and Realty Co. of Connersville. All major credit cards, cash and checks will be accepted; all sales will be final.
The auction items became surplus when Reid Hospital completed moving to its new campus at 1100 Reid Parkway on Sept. 10. Any materials not sold to the new owners of 1401 Chester, other specialty companies or not moved to the new hospital were donated to the Reid Hospital Auxiliary and will be included in the sale
The auction funds will be used to support patient care services.
